Foto Friday – Bombé Chests

I’ve loved this style of drawers for awhile now but had no idea about the history behind them. Today’s Foto Friday is dedicated to the Bombé Chest! Basically these chests/drawers have curves and a serpentine design instead of your standard straight lines.

The basic history is that the design can be tracked way back to the French Regency period (starting about 1715). Around this time furniture shapes became more bowed and round. Modern versions of this now popular design include a variety of finishes/colours and are available at all price points.

Here are a few examples (a mix of traditional and modern) for you to check out.
