Do you upcycle? Earth Day Canada Challenge

Do you “upcycle”?  “Upcycling” is the very environmentally friendly practice of taking a junky or unused object and turning it into something useful and of greater value.  I think this could be a theme for some of my own DIY projects.

Whether you are moving into your first place, buying your first house or just looking for a refresh, “upcycling” is a great way to add to your decor.  Over the past year or so I’ve “upcycled”  a few things – one of my favorite projects was these Ikea Malm Drawers that I “made over” .  I have a few more “upcycled” projects to share over the next few weeks so stay tuned!

Now there is a chance to put you’re own DIY skills to the test.  Earth Day Canada is holding a contest where you can enter your own projects in three categories:

Most upcycled iconMost upcycled
This project will have little competition when it comes to green cred. You salvaged everything from the screws to the paint!

Most inventive iconMost inventive
You are a creative genius at work. Who would have thought you could turn a ____ into a____?

Best makeover iconBest makeover
With a little love and attention, you took something down and out and made it beautiful.

I’m thinking of entering those drawers. You have until November 27th to enter – and there are some great prizes to be won! You can check out some of last year’s entries here.

Do you have any favorite “upcycled” projects? Anything you’d like to try?
