A pop of colour: painting our shed

When we moved into our house the back shed was painted a minty green colour and seemed to be in pretty good shape.  Three years later the paint was peeling, the colour looked faded and to be honest, it just wasn’t pretty.

We decided to spruce it up with some fresh paint.  The hardest part of the entire process (of course!)  was choosing the colour.  We went back and forth between  a lovely neutral shade and a big pop of colour.  In the end we decided to go with a bright red, Para Paints Smooze Exterior Latex Paint in Velvet finish(P95082-85).

The painting process was a long one… We had a lot of cleaning up to do before we could even start painting because the old paint was peeling, chipped and faded.  Once all the prep work was done the paint went on smoothly although we did need three coats to get a nice solid colour (this was mainly due to the wood on the shed and the fact that we used TSP rinse instead of priming).

I’ll be honest, I was a bit worried the colour would be too bright and the neighbours might hate it (and we’d become known as “those people with the bright shed”) but it turned out nicely.  My husband loved it right away and even though it took me a couple of weeks to get used to it I’ve decided that I love the pop of colour.

And now, when we look out the window instead of a sad little shed we see this cute red one!

  1. Looks great, love the color. It’s always amazing to me that the small jobs are really big jobs in disguise.

  2. Oh wow Emilija, this is adorable and makes the shed such a cute focal point instead of just being there. Great idea. Hope life with babe is treating you well! 🙂 Lisa

Thanks Lisa! Life is good. I actually think I might have passed you on a walk in the neighbourhood a little while ago!! You were across the way and a bit out of earshot but next time we should grab a coffee!

  3. That looks so fabulous Emilija! I bet it’ll look fabulous in the wintertime too – a nice pop of red amidst all that downy white snow!
