Cute Christmas Cards from Minted

I heart cards and real mail.  Checking the mailbox at Christmastime is the best!!!  (Sidenote: We really should try and send mail more often during the year…)  I’ve been checking the Christmas cards out at Minted. There are some fabulous finds that you can personalize with photos, text, colours AND all of the cards are created by independent designers .  A roundup of a couple of my favs below. Now I have to decide on one…

Trick or Treat! Halloween Inspiration

We are not a “let’s go crazy decorating” for Halloween kind of house.  I’m good with a cute scarecrow, a few sparkly bats, tons of candles and fabulous pumpkins.  In the past we’ve carved a cute owl, last year we did a lantern and something a little bit classic.  I still haven’t decided on what we’ll be carving later this week but here are a couple ideas I’m thinking of:

AND this is amazing…  I love this pumpkin tower.  Super fun and yes, they are all REAL pumpkins!

Project: Main Floor

{ Some inspiration via Pinterest }

We’ve been working on a couple of updates on our main floor – some window styling, a new table or two… I’d love to say all of these purchases or projects have been planned but they haven’t, most of them have been impulse buys or done out of necessity.

All of these one-off projects have got me thinking about “finishing” the main floor of our house.  We need to find/hang some art, add some side tables, tackle some lighting, figure out storage…  They are technically small projects but will take time to get all the pieces right.  My goal is to to have all of these little projects done in time for summer.

Here is my project list so far:

  1. Kitchen window curtains
  2. Cork board DIY
  3. Storage bench for our nook
  4. Dining room table/chairs
  5. Dining room walls
  6. Entry way lighting
  7. Hallway wall art
  8. Living room side tables/storage
  9. Living room rug

This list will definitely give me something to start with and I’m sure things will get added along the way.  Looking forward to sharing the details with you starting next week with our kitchen curtain reveal.

So Thankful

Last week I posted about the chalkboard with the gold stripe I made and I had to share how it turned out.  When everyone came over for Thanksgiving dinner we asked them to share what they were thankful for by writing it on the board. It was super fun and everyone kept adding things throughout the night.

So much to be thankful for!  Hope you all had a great long weekend!

Be Thankful – DIY Chalkboard with Gold Stripe

With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend I wanted to find a fun way for the family to share what they were thankful for.  After some Pinterest-inspiration I decided to create a chalkboard where we each add our some thoughts about what we’re thankful for the most.  This was a super easy DIY – all you need is some chalkboard paint and a wooden board (I picked up a pre-cut piece from Home Depot for $10) and you’re done!

After I painted the board I decided to add a bit of pizzaz with by adding a gold stripe at the bottom.  I love the bit of flare – makes it a bit more fun and festive.

I was a bit afraid to try some fancy lettering (I’m known for my messy handwriting) so I printed out some script, traced the back with chalk, placed on the chalkboard and then ran over the text with my hands (think of it as the same motion as ironing on a transfer).  Then I traced over it with my Chalk Ink pen and I was all done.

Now I can’t wait for everyone to add their own thankful tid-bits this weekend!!  What are you thankful for?

Tonic Living Fabric Fun

There was a little DIY action happening around here this weekend.  At Blog Podium I picked up a couple of fabulous fabric samples from Tonic Living.  If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile then you’ll now that I could spend hours browsing the fab fabrics on the Tonic Living site.  I’ve also worked with them on a couple of custom sewing projects – all of which have turned out great and that I’ll have to feature here soon (I just need to remember to take proper photos).

So what did I do with this fabric? Check out this  little mushroom stool for little Miss S.

Cute right? and SUPER EASY.  All you need is a tree stump or large branch, a round wood disk, some foam and a staple gun.  Nail the disk onto the stump, place the foam on top of the disk, cover with fabric and staple away.
